Oc'h ober petra emañ Mona ?

== Lesson 11 == What is she doing ? (The present continuous)

Yezhadur

Y1. The verb emañ

The verb emañ is the auxiliary verb of the present continuous tense, which is used when the action is still taking place (like estar in Spanish). It must be replaced by zo if the subject precedes the verb, as we have already seen in the previous lessons (Kentel seizh).
En he gwele emañ Mona
Mona zo en he gwele

Y2. The present continuous

It is formed using the auxiliary verb emañ and the present participle.

Y3. The present participle

It is formed using the preposition o (oc'h before a vowel) followed by an infinitive :
O lenn emaout ?
Oc'h ober chistr emañ
O causes 'mixed' mutations of the infinitives following it. (See next lesson.)

Y4. The infinitive

It comes immediately after the preposition oand undergoes mixed mutations. It may have a distinctive ending such as -añ, as in skrivañ, fardañ, evañ, or it might not, for example lenn, gortoz, c'hoari.

Y5. Ouzh

Ouzh is a locational preposition (= against, at) :
ouzh taol
ouzh ar prenestr

Y6. Locational adverbs

These are (from nearest to furthest) : amañ, aze, ahont (here, there, over there).
