Penaos eo ? Pe liv int ?

== Lesson 4 == What's it/he/she like? What colour are they?

Yezhadur

Y1. Complement of the subject

Penaos and pe liv ask about the complement of the subject.
In answer to these questions the complement of the subject is placed at the beginning of the sentence (replace the question word by the answer):
Pe liv eo an ti ?
Gwenn eo an ti

VERBS.

Y2. The plural

The plural of the 3rd person singular eo is int.
Mat int
N'int ket mat

Y3. Agreement of the verb in the plural

Careful! The agreement of the verb with the subject in the plural is not always made ! The verb agrees:
  1. only in the negative,
  2. and if the subject is placed before the verb.
- Mat eo an traoù ?
- Ya, mat int.
- N'eo ket mat an traoù-se ?
- Nann, an traoù-se n'int ket mat.
This important rule holds true for all verbs.

Y4. deus

Deus is the imperative (command form) singular, irregular, of the verb dont which becomes deuit in the plural.

Y5. Plural nouns

Blev (hair) and daoulagad (eyes) are plural.

Y6. The demonstrative

The demonstrative follows the noun which is preceded by the definite article. There are 3 degrees , from the nearest to the furthest (here,there,over-there/yonder), expressed by -mañ, -se, -hont, corresponding to the three adverbs of place amañ, aze, ahont. Giving therefore: Article + Noun + Demonstrative.
Al levr-mañ This book.
An den-se That man.
An ti-hont That house over there.

Y7. Demonstrative pronouns in the singular

These correspond to the 3 degrees already explained :
  • in the masculine: hemañ, hennezh, henhont ;
  • in the feminine: homañ, honnezh, honhont.
Les forms in hont are a lot less used.
