Kentel tri
Ar ger mell hag an anv
== Lesson 3 == Articles and the noun
|
|
Y1. L'article
The definite article is al,
an, ar
(the).
The indefinite article is ul,
un, ur
(a, an).
Use:
-
al and ul before the consonant
/L/ :
- al laezh
- ul loen
-
an and un before the consonants
/D,N,T/ :
- un daol
- an ti
and before vowels and silent
H's :
- an amzer
- an heol
-
ar and ur before other
consonants :
- ar paotr
- ur plac'h
- ur yezh
Y2. Mutations after articles
Articles, definite or indefinite, sometimes trigger a
change in the initial consonant of the noun. So
Ki
(dog), becomes ar c'hi, ur c'hi. This change is called
mutation.
After articles, in the singular, all masculine
nouns starting with the consonant
/K/ undergo this mutation of
K to C'H.
This mutation allows us to know the gender of these
nouns.
Y3. Attributive adjectives
These come after the nouns they qualify :
- Un ti nevez
- Ur paotr bihan
- An tad-kozh
- Ar Mor Bihan
